The Freedom to Make Time for Friends
On Wednesday, I spent the day with this lovely, smiley lady to my right: Lucy.
No, it was not my wedding day—though I do love this photo from nearly two years ago (credit to Karen Clark). It is one of my favourites, not just because it is so happy, but because my parents are in it along with Lucy’s husband. Also, I always prefer photos of me where I am in the distance! 😆
Lucy and I had a wonderfully relaxing spa day—just what we both needed. We started with a swim, followed by lunch, then finished with a facial. It was the perfect mix of relaxation, good food, and great company.
One of the things I appreciate most about running my own business is having control over my own time. Of course, being self-employed comes with its challenges, and there are certainly times when I work long hours. But overall, I love that I can choose when to step away from my desk and take time for things that matter—like spending a day with a good friend.
When I worked in traditional employment, it was not always possible to take a weekday off without using up precious annual leave. Now, I can organise my schedule to make room for days like this. It is a freedom I do not take for granted.
Beyond the flexibility, I am also incredibly grateful for good friends—the people who make life richer, who remind us to slow down, and who bring plenty of laughter along the way.
Thanks for a wonderful day, Lucy! X
