Your String Quartet Space Requirements

When you book The Bridgewater String Quartet, you’re inviting live, elegant music into your event. Consequently, ensuring we have the right space and setup is essential for both our performance quality and your guests’ enjoyment. Below, you’ll find everything you need to prepare for a flawless musical experience.

Ideal Performance Area
First, please provide a flat area of roughly 3 × 2 m. This footprint gives us room to arrange our instruments—two violins, a viola and a cello—so that each player has space to move comfortably. Moreover, a level surface ensures stable seating, which contributes to consistent tone and tuning.

Seating Requirements
In addition to the performance space, we require four armless chairs. Without armrests, chairs allow for optimal bow movement and posture. If your venue has sturdy chairs available, we’re happy to use those. Otherwise, we can provide seating upon request—just let us know in advance.

Arrangement Options
Typically, we arrange ourselves in a semicircle, which encourages musical communication among the players and delivers balanced sound projection to your audience. However, if space is limited, we can also line up side by side. Either way, we bring all necessary stands and equipment, so you don’t need to worry about logistics.

Outdoor Considerations
If you’re hosting an outdoor event, please ensure there’s adequate shelter—such as a marquee, canopy or large umbrella—to protect our instruments. Furthermore, temperatures should remain above 17 °C to maintain sound quality and safeguard our stringed instruments from damage.
