BBC Children In Need 2022: A Stunning Performance of “Running Up That Hill”
BBC Children In Need 2022 concluded with a truly unforgettable performance of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill.” This moving rendition was curated by the talented Gareth Malone and featured the Military Wives choir alongside choirs from England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. A unique ‘commonwealth’ of drummers also gathered outside the Royal Albert Hall to add an incredible rhythmic layer to the performance.
The performance was made even more special with the addition of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. They joined in to perform live, bringing their world-class sound to the mix. Filmed at MediaCity in Salford, the orchestra worked together seamlessly with the choirs and drummers, creating a rich and powerful rendition of the classic song.
The moment was filled with emotion and energy, showcasing the true power of music. It was especially moving because, despite the orchestras and choirs rehearsing separately, they had no idea what the final sound would be like together. Once they played, however, it became clear that their collaboration worked brilliantly, creating a unique and beautiful fusion of voices and instruments.
If you missed it, don’t worry—the performance will be available for you to watch. The show will be live on BBC 4 next Sunday, 27th, and is already available to stream on iPlayer.
Music has the incredible ability to unite us all, and this performance was a perfect reminder of that. It wasn’t just a tribute to Kate Bush but also a celebration of the power of collaboration and community.
What did you think of the performance? Does it compare to the original, or did the combination of voices and orchestra take it to a new level?
