BBC Philharmonic @ Mediacity
We thoroughly enjoyed performing in yesterday afternoon’s BBC Philharmonic concert at MediaCity. We had the privilege of collaborating with conductor Nil Venditti and the talented baritone James Atkinson. The live audience brought wonderful energy to the afternoon performance, making it a special experience for everyone involved.
To begin, the program opened with Louise Farrenc’s Symphony No. 2, which showcased her extraordinary talent. The symphony’s lively melodies and rich harmonies provided a brilliant start to the concert. Under Nil Venditti’s expert guidance, the orchestra delivered an energetic and precise performance. Every section played beautifully, ensuring the music felt fresh and invigorating. As a result, this set the perfect tone for the rest of the afternoon.
Next, the atmosphere shifted as we moved into Gustav Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder. Baritone James Atkinson delivered a stunning performance, capturing each song’s emotional depth. His voice perfectly matched the reflective poetry of Friedrich Rückert. Meanwhile, the orchestra accompanied him thoughtfully, enhancing the intimate and contemplative nature of Mahler’s music.
Finally, we concluded with Gian Carlo Menotti’s Apocalypse, a dramatic and intense work. Venditti led the orchestra through this complex and thrilling score with great skill. As the emotional intensity of the music increased, the audience remained fully captivated. Ultimately, the live audience felt the music’s full impact, making it an exhilarating way to end the afternoon.
Throughout the concert, each piece brought something unique, allowing the performers and audience to experience a range of emotions. The afternoon concert was both a memorable and exhilarating musical journey. Overall, the live audience’s engagement added to the excitement, making this performance truly unforgettable.
