Ever Open Door with John Helliwell

Ever Open Door Show Announcement

We are thrilled to perform with John Helliwell on 8 November 2025 at the Blue Box Theatre in Chorlton, Manchester. Moreover, it is an honour to replace the brilliant Singh Quartet and bring Ever Open Door to life.

Album Origins and Highlights

Ever Open Door is a live album recorded at Storyhouse Theatre, Chester, in July 2019. Featuring John’s tenor sax and clarinet, The Singh String Quartet, and John Ellis on Hammond organ, the album includes ballads like “The Ballad Of The Sad Young Men,” “Ever Open Door,” and “If Everyone Was Listening.” Additionally, Andy Scott’s arrangements and three original tunes (one co-written with John) add fresh emotion.

Preparing for Our Role

When John invited us, we eagerly accepted. Firstly, we will receive the sheet music well in advance. Then, we will study existing recordings for each piece. Finally, on the afternoon of the show, we will rehearse together to capture both energy and nuance.

About John Helliwell’s Career

John is best known as Supertramp’s saxophonist and backing vocalist. Furthermore, he played on Pink Floyd’s A Momentary Lapse of Reason and studied at the Royal Northern College of Music. His collaborations with Jean‑Jacques Goldman and others show his versatility. Moreover, John’s warmth and humour make every concert feel special.

What to Expect on Stage

Expect an intimate evening of storytelling through music. You will hear the album’s title track alongside poignant ballads and uplifting passages. In addition, “The Ballad Of The Sad Young Men” takes on new hues in our live performance.
