Yesterday, the Northern Film Orchestra (NFO) returned to Stoller Hall—the stunning performance venue at Chetham’s School of Music—to record new music for the upcoming Angelina Ballerina soundtrack. As an alumna of Chetham’s long before Stoller Hall was built, making music in this world-class space felt especially meaningful.
Story Behind the Soundtrack
Angelina Ballerina calls for a score that’s both playful and evocative. Consequently, the composers crafted clever variations on a central theme—quaint, traditional, and undeniably cute—to match the animation’s charm. Moreover, each variation introduces a fresh twist, engaging listeners while perfectly underlining Angelina’s on-screen adventures.
Intimate Orchestra & Performance Quality
Unlike a full symphony, this small ensemble preserves warmth and clarity. The strings shimmered, woodwinds danced, and every musician’s contribution shone through. Since the scoring left nowhere to hide, each note had to be spot-on—raising the performance standard even higher.
Recording Process & Teamwork
The session was both enjoyable and intense. First, we sight-read new passages; then we repeated challenging sections, striving for perfection. Meanwhile, engineers at Stoller Hall captured every nuance with crystal-clear fidelity. Although the work demanded deep concentration, the camaraderie kept spirits high—proof that great music springs from focused teamwork.
Reception & Feedback
After the final take, the Yoto team shared extremely positive feedback—they were delighted with the results. It’s rewarding to know our performance will breathe life into Angelina’s story. Reflecting on the day, I felt immense pride in both the orchestra’s artistry and the hall’s resonant acoustics.
